20 short scary stories.

1: We don’t mind our dog sleeping in our room at night. It’s the thing that lives in our closet that is bothered by it.

2: I don’t mind the tapping on my window. Until I found out that it was coming from inside my house.

3: I used to whistle when I fetch water from the well. Until something started whistling back.

4: I had a terrible nightmare where I was attacked by a derange person at four thirty p.m. I was glad that I finally woke up from it. However, as my clock hit 4:30, I hear hurried footsteps coming up the stairs.

5: What do you do when you are looking at a photograph and it starts smiling at you?

6: There was a message on my bathroom mirror. But I live alone.

7: Blackberries used to be my favourite fruit. Until I saw one get up and crawl away.

8: It’s great to have a phone. But it is annoying to be constantly getting phone calls from complete strangers. Especially when they are from the grave.

9: I have a new camera. But it keeps taking strange photos. In all of them, there is a strange blurred out figure in the background. I wouldn’t mind but every time I take a picture, the closer the figure gets.

10: I keep getting messages from my wife. Who had died a year ago.

11: I won a new camera and decided to test it out with my friends. But the photos turned out to be disturbing. They show how and where my friends would die. But what was more disturbing is that the photo that of me that I took by accident… shows nothing.

12: I used to collect portraits of people. Until one of them blinked.

13: It’s horrible when someone won’t stop talking about worms when you are eating spaghetti. It’s another thing when you find out that they were telling the truth.

14: I hate that constant knocking noise. But I don’t want to lift up the floorboards.

15: I went to complain about my new wardrobe. I had opened it and found that it was invested with spiders. The shop manager said that it was strange. The last owners complained that there were zombies in it.

17: I was shocked when the announcer came over the train’s speaker. “Next stop is Purgatory”.

18: I have the ability to stop time. But I can’t restart it.

19: It is one thing finding a skeleton in your living room. It’s another thing when it starts talking to you.

20: I don’t want to blink. Cause every time I do, that statue moves closer.

Film Reviews: The Fog

Release date: February 8th 1980.

Story: The costal town of Antonio bay, California is getting ready to celebrate it's 100th anniversary. But things are not so smoothly as the inhabitants wanted. For on the night of the celebrations, a strange thick fog comes in from the sea and soon ingulfs the town. But it's not the fog that is a threat... it is what's in the fog that is the main threat.

My thoughts: This is one of John Carpenter's most recognisable films. And it is great. The pirate ghosts are cool and some of the effects are impressive. If you haven't seen it yet, I would recommend it.

My score: Three stars.

TV Review: Extreme Ghostbusters

Release date: September 1st - December 4th 1997 (1 season. 40 episodes.).

Story: Set many years after the Real Ghostbusters, supernatural activity had quiet down and had put the Ghostbusters out of business. Only Egon, Slimer, and Janine stayed behind at the firehouse. While looking after the containment unit (which houses the ghosts and the other supernatural threats that the Ghostbusters have faced and caught), Egon gets a job teaching about the paranormal at the New York City College. But then one day, the supernatural decide to become active again and Egon is forced to recruit a new Ghostbusters team. Mainly the only students that attend his class. They are Kylie Griffin (a goth girl genius who is an expert in the supernatural), Eduardo Rivera (a cynical slacker), Garrett Miller (a young paraplegic athlete who uses a wheelchair), and Roland Jackson (a studious mechanical whiz).

My thoughts: This was a cool sequel series to the Real Ghostbusters. The characters are great, the ghosts and other supernatural threats are creepy and awesome, and the show got darker in tone in some episodes. This is a cool show and I would recommend it for everyone.

(For more info on this show, check out the Extreme Ghostbusters review by Phelous on Youtube)

My score: Four stars.

Film Review: Raiders of the lost ark.

Release date: June 12th 1981 (US release). July 30th 1981 (UK release).

Story: Harrison Ford stars as Indiana Jones. A adventurer/archaeologist who travels around the world seeking hidden treasure. Now he is task to seek out the Ark of the Covenant before it falls into enemy hands and is used as a weapon.

My thoughts: This was the first of the Indiana Jones films. Harrison Ford is great in one of the most memorable roles in cinema history. His character and most scenes were parodied a lot and the dialog is really quotable. The action is great from Indiana being chased by the giant bolder to the fight scenes. If you like action/adventure films then I would give it a watch.

Release date: Four stars.

Film Review: The Shining

Release date: May 23rd 1980 (US release). October 2nd 1980 (UK release).

Story: Jack Torrance gets a job as a winter caretaker at a mountain isolated hotel called the Overlook Hotel. Where he and his family would stay during the winter months and take care of the hotel while it is closed. But things are not that easy when Jack is a recovering alcoholic, that his son has psychic powers, and that the hotel may be haunted by evil forces that will take their toll on Jack.

My thoughts: This is one of the most recognisable films based on a Stephen King novel. And it is really good. Stanley Kubrick is an amazing director and it shows as he puts his own blend of filming in this. Even thought Stephen King hated the film, it has become one of the greatest horror movies out there. Jack Nicholson is amazing as Jack Torrance. The way he changes from a short of caring father into a complete psychopathic madman at the end is made great by a slow build up and that the films makes you wonder if the ghost are actually causing Jack to turn insane or the complete isolation of his location and the fact that he is suffering from writers block that is causing it. The other characters are great as well and the locations are amazing. And the climax will leave you on edge.

Just to warn you that this is a horror movie. So it's only for those who are eighteen years and older.

My score: Five stars.

Scary story 5.

Eli. A Christmas horror.

A lot of people know who Santa Claus is. That kindly gentleman in red who delivers presents to all the good kids on the night of Christmas Eve. Well it is known that he is not just the only being associated with Christmas. There is Krampus for example. Santa’s evil twin who resembles a huge, hairy monster with goat’s hooves, long and sharp horns, red eyes, sharp teeth, and a whip like tongue. He is known to punish kids who have been naughty. But what if I were to tell you that there is a being even worse than Krampus. A creature so scary and horrible, that you cannot believe that he is associated with Christmas. He is known only as… Eli

Eli is the evil son of Santa and is best described as a cross between Santa Claus and Krampus. He resembles an elderly, skinny man with a long grey beard. He is abnormally tall and thin with broken teeth, dead grey eyes, going bald, claw like fingernails and toe nails, and wearing what looks like rags made out of animal skins. He is somewhat similar to the Wendigo of Native American legend. They say that he is always followed or is the cause of bad wither weather. He could be seen stalking people in the fog, cause sudden storms, and would spy on you from the tops of trees or rooftops. Eli doesn’t walk. Instead he float from place to place. He often lets out a loud and eerie moan. If anyone hears this, it means that he is nearby. It is also said that if you feel a sudden gust of icy cold wind blow past you, it means that Eli had just flown past you.

Unlike Santa and Krampus, Eli doesn’t venture into towns or cities. He often stays in the woodlands, mountains, and other places that always has a cold and snowy climate. He is always active during the winter season and will go into hibernation during spring, summer, and autumn. But that doesn’t mean that he stays away from settlements. He would hang around villages and wait for some unfortunate person to venture out into the winter night. Like the Wendigo, Eli often mimics the voices of people and animals to lure his victims. The only way to prevent him from going after you is to leave him an offering of bread, buttermilk, cheese, and/or chocolate. But his favourite thing to eat is meat. Particularly the flesh of anyone or any animal that sadly happen to cross his path. Other ways of protecting yourself from Eli include images of his father, bright lights, and a strong Christmas Spirit. All of these will keep him away and you are left to enjoy the festive time in peace.

So you can see why Eli is rarely known and talked about during the holidays. He is something to fear and the stuff of folk tales and legends. Better left to be forgotten. But that does not mean that he is brought up now and then. So if you feel a sudden cold in the air… You better look behind you. Cause you might never know what is following you.

Scary story 4.

The Haunted K.F.C.

Everyone knows what K.F.C is. That international chain of fast food restaurants that sells fried chicken and fries. Yes almost everyone has heard of it and had even eaten there. But there is one that nobody has ever heard of. Mainly due to the fact that it was quickly shut down months after it had opened. But the reason why it was closed remained a mystery until many years later… someone found out. And had posted it online for all the world to read.

It turns out that the land where the K.F.C was built on was haunted. For it was once a place where Satan worshipers would gather to worship and sacrifice people to their gods about six hundred years ago. And now and then they would summon demons and other supernatural monstrosities to do their bidding. This was made possible by a well that they say was a porthole to hell itself. But they were discovered and were put to death by the local lord and townsfolk. But the head Satanist yelled something about a curse for anyone who destroys their land and build on top of it before being set alight.

The town’s people never did build anything on that bit of land. Until years later that is. When the K.F.C was built. But by then the curse was long forgotten. And for the first few days… everything was ok. That is until the bad things started.

The first things to happen were that things begin to disappear. Ordinary things at first like pencils and phones. But then things started to get worse. Rats and crows begin to appear in the deep fryers, swarms of insects kept crawling inside under the doors, chairs and tables begin to move all by themselves when no one is around, and there were even reports of ghostly shadows being seen during the nightshift. But that was nothing compare to the horrors that was about to follow.

During the last week of the month. Repairmen were busy trying to lay out a new floor after a huge black gooey mould began to spread over the place. What they found was truly shocking. The K.F.C was built over a well that had a hideous green light. The same well that the Satanists were using to summon demons all those years ago. And with that there was an inhuman screaming. And the whole K.F.C was filled with a monstrous black smog. Everyone managed to escape the place but not before everything inside came alive and attacked them.

The K.F.C was closed a day after and the building was left to rot away. But now and then some people would go inside for a dare. As they do so, they see that everything is normal for a while. Then the bad things that happen all those years ago will start happening again. And this time whatever is causing all of it made sure that not one person leaves alive. This went on for many years until a large group of priests managed to exorcise the building and the demons went away. The well was filled in and the K.F.C was demolished. And in its place they built a Starbucks.

Everything returned to normal after that. But some people are still scared that the bad things would come back again someday. Many others tell them not to be so superstitious. And that there are other things to worry about. Like the fact that some things are going missing at the Starbucks.

The top five short horror stories to read this halloween

No 5: The sound of silence.
A deaf man had been undergoing surgery to restore his hearing. When he awoke after recovering, he was surrounded by family and friends in his hospital room. And he was overjoyed by the fact that he can hear them again. But when they stopped talking, he asked what he was hearing now. A friend said that he was hearing silence. But the man stated that what he was hearing was not silence. Then a loud noise suddenly erupted from another part of the hospital. The man then said that noise is silence. But then his wife said that the noise isn't silence... it's screaming.

No 4: The spare room.
A young woman moves into a house just on the outskirts of town. It was ok apart from the spare room that was in need of redecorating. So she started to redecorate it. And the first thing she does is scrapping of the old wallpaper. But as she does so, she notices names and dates scratched onto the wall underneath. She has no idea what they mean until she looks up one on the internet. She was horrified to discover that the names are that of missing people and that the dates are the days that they had vanished. She rings the police and they inspect the spare room. The woman was just outside when she hears one of the policemen say "Yep... it's defiantly human". She then asks what was human and was told that she is going to be taken to a safe place... For it was not wallpaper that she has scrapping off the walls.

No 3: The keyhole.
A man gets a room at a old hotel. He was given a key and as he was going up to his room, the receptionist asked that is he comes across a room with no number on the door, that he should leave it alone. That man doesn't know what the receptionist is on about but agrees and heads off to his room. But during the night, he keeps hearing strange noises. Thinking that it was the other visitors staying at the hotel, the man goes outside to complain. But as he leaves his room, he notices the room without a number on its door. And that the noises where coming from inside the room itself. So he kneels down and looks through the keyhole. All he sees is a woman with pale skin, long black hair, and was wearing a white nightdress. And that she was making those strange noises. She was standing with her back to the door so the man didn't see her face. But the man must have made a noise for the woman began to turn around. Quickly the man backed away from the door and went back to his room. Where he spent the rest of the night. In the morning the man goes to check out before leaving the hotel. But as he walks past the door without a number, he decides to look through the keyhole again. All he saw this time was red. Red everywhere. The man then goes to reception and tells the receptionist everything. The receptionist is angry that the man did what he was told not to and then tells him everything about that room. The room is haunted by the ghost of a woman who was murdered by her husband years ago. And also her husband had removed her eyes. Leaving only empty, red sockets.

No 2: The Portraits.
A traveller is lost in the wilderness. It is getting dark and he is needing to find shelter for the night. Soon he finds an old abandoned house and decides to spend the night in there. The traveller goes inside and soon finds a old dusty bed. But when he sets up a sleeping bag, he notices that the room is full of portraits. They are of hideous, horrifyingly people who made the traveller nervous. They seem to stare at him as he gets ready for bed and continue to stare at him as he gets into bed and falls asleep. But the traveller has a good nights sleep and wakes up early the next day. He gets up and then notices something. There were no portraits on the walls of the cabin... Only windows.

No 1: The voice.
A girl is in her room when she hears her mother calling for her. She then goes downstairs to see what her mother wants. But as she walks past a wardrobe, a hand reaches out and pulls her in. As she wonders what is going on, she notices that it was her mother who has pulled her inside. And her mother says "Do not make a sound. I've heard it too".

The top five games to play on Halloween.

 No 5: Sour Sweet/Candy Roulette.

Things you'll need: You will need a small blank bag, a handful of sweets, three or four sour sweets, and five players.

No 1: Bloody Mary.

Things you'll need: A mirror and several candles.

Rules: The player must look into a mirror at midnight. Turn all of the lights off and light the candles. Then they must chant "Bloody Mary" a number of times (it varies from country to country). If you are successful, the image of a ghost girl will appear in the mirror. They say that the ghost will try and attack whoever is looking at them. If this happens, you must turn on the lights immediately. This will make the ghost disappear back to the other world.

These are just some of the things that you can do on Halloween. Apart from Trick or Treating, having costume parties, visiting haunted houses, among other things. But if you do go out on Halloween, make sure that you stay safe, don't go wondering off alone or far from where you live, and only go with people you know.

Scary story 3.

The Crow-man.

The Crow-man is an ancient English folklore about a sinister and mysterious old man that wonders about towns and the countryside during the hours of darkness. It is said that he has long sliver hair, a long crooked nose, small yellow eyes, wrinkled unwashed skin, slightly pointed ears, long claw like fingers, and a mouthful of broken teeth. He also wears baggy clothing like that of a tramp, a long black coat, dark brown boots, and a black top hat. It is said that he also carries either an old fashioned oil lantern or a walking cane. If you happen to spot him, you’ll think that he had just stepped out from the late Victorian era.

Little is known about the Crow-man’s origins. Some say that he was once a magician that gained supernatural powers after summoning a demon. Others say that he is a lost soul that wonders about for all eternity. But whatever is the case, everybody agrees that he is not of this earth.

The Crow-man prefers to wonder about during the hours of darkness. From sunset to sunrise. Although he is not a vampire. His favourite places to hang out are alleyways, street corners, long countryside pathways through forests and/or fields, and any other places that are dark. But when morning comes, he quickly finds a dark place to sleep until the sun goes down. Like a hollow tree, a cave, a crypt, or someone’s cellar or attic. Some say that they can hear him whistling as he strolls about the empty streets of a village or town. The Crow-man prefers nights were the only light is from the moon. And also if it is stormy, windy, foggy, or cold.

Why is he named the Crow-man you may ask? Well it is because that he is constantly followed and aided by many crows. Sinister looking creatures that are jet black and have demonic red eyes. They are his minions and will do anything he asks of them. Either sending them to get food or to locate anyone who has the misfortune of crossing him. It is also a fact that he can transform into a giant crow if he wants to travel vast distances. And that his laughter is similar to that of a crow’s squawk. So if you see a large number of crows in your area, it is a sign that he is either been here or is nearby.

If you happen to encounter him one dark night, always remember to be polite if he comes over to you. Do not mock him, insult him, and above all us provoke him. He would transform you into a crow and forces you to join the ever growing flock that accompanies him.  Or worse he would place a curse on you and will constantly bring misfortune upon your head. If you are polite to him, he would pass you by and you would be able to continue your journey without fear.

The Crow-man is also known to grant miracles. Any horrible misfortune that might have fallen on you or your family, he would get rid of it. But there is a price you’ll have to pay. The Crow-man would often ask for something priceless or very valuable that you own. Either something shiny like a watch or a pen. But mainly your soul. If that is the case then you will be turned into a crow. But if you are luckily enough, he might grew sorry for you and will turn you back into a human. But this rarely ever happens.

So be warned of the Crow-man. Best not to go outside during the hours of darkness. Because you might never know… What is lurking in the shadows.

My top ten favourite Scooby Doo Monsters

No 10: The Ice Cream Ghosts.
See the source image

Series: The Scooby Doo Show.

Episode: The Ghost of the Bad Humour Man.

Story: The Mystery Machine crashes into a ice cream factory and (while trying to fix it) the gang encounter three ghosts that are haunting the place. Looks like they have stumbled across another mystery.

My thoughts: The idea of three ghosts that are made out of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream is a weird but the show managed to pull it off. These ghost look like the green ghosts from a previous series.

No 9: The Ghost of Geronimo.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: Decoy for a Dognapper.

Story: Dogs have being kidnapped from a dog show. So Scooby Doo and the gang decide to look into it. But they come across the ghost of Geronimo who is warning them to stay away from a old abandoned native American village.

My thoughts: There are only three downsides to this character. The first one is when we first saw him, we know that he is a criminal instead of a ghost. The second one is that he was defeated way too easily (being chased by Scooby Doo and the other dogs and then climbs a pole). Then the third one is that his motive isn't that serious. He was kidnapping dogs so that only his dog would win the show (instead of selling them off somewhere). But it is a great look for a Scooby Doo monster.

No 8: Charlie the Robot.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: Foul play at Funland.

Story: The gang arrive at a seemingly deserted theme park but then discover that it is running all by itself. When they investigate, they run into Charlie the robot who is running loose around the park. Just who is he and what is he up to?

My thoughts: Charlie is one of a few monsters in the whole run of Scooby Doo that turns out to be real. He has a cool design and I like the way that nothing stops him.

No 7: The 10.000 volt ghost.
See the source image

Series: The Scooby Doo show.

Episode: Watt a shocking ghost.

Story: The gang have run out of fuel when they encounter a ghost made out of pure electricity which is haunting a nearby town of Winterhaven. So the gang decides to investigate.

My thoughts: It's a ghost made out of electricity. How awesome is that?!

No 6: The Demon Shark.
See the source image

Series: The Scooby Doo show.

Episode: There's a Demon Shark in the Foggy Dark.

Story: A million year old humanoid shark is revived from a solid block of ice and goes on the rampage. But it is interested in some priceless pearls for some reason.

My thoughts: The design of this monster is amazing. Although it is strange how it got out of a solid block of ice instantly (I know that it is a criminal in a suit and it might be fake ice. but still).

No 5: The Space Kook.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: The Spooky Space Kook.

Story: While trying to find some fuel for the Mystery Machine, the gang come across a abandoned airfield where a ghostly alien is seen wondering around.

My thoughts: This is one of the most recognisable monsters in the Scooby Doo franchise. Due to its design and it's laugh like cry.

No 4: The Phantom/Ghost.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: Hassle in the castle.

Story: After getting lost in a fog, the gang arrive at Haunted Isle. Where they come across an unearthly ghost that haunts a abandoned castle.

My thoughts: This is a recognisable design for a ghost (a sheet with eye holes in it). Yet the lengths the criminal went to make this ghost believable is quite amazing.

No 3: The Green Ghosts.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: A night of fright is no delight.

Story: Scooby Doo is included in a will of a millionaire who has recently past away. But the will states that he and some other people have to spend the night at a haunted house before they can have their share of the fortune. But things are not that easy when two ghosts show up.

My thoughts: These ghosts started off as shadows but then later on reveal themselves as green ghosts. Their designs are great and they are one of the most recognisable monsters in the show.

No 2: The Creeper.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: Jeepers! It's the Creeper!

Story: After finding an injured bank guard on the side of the road, the gang decide to investigate the true identity of the ghoulish bank robber.

My thoughts: The Creeper is another recognisable Scooby Doo monster. From his looks to the fact that he only says his name (like a Pokémon). I haven't seen this episode yet but I found out about it in the game Scooby Doo Night of a 1000 frights PS2 game.

No 1: Captain Cutler's Ghost.
See the source image

Series: Scooby Doo! Where are you?!

Episode: A clue for Scooby Doo.

Story: While partying at the beach, Scooby Doo and the gang encounter the ghost wearing a glowing old deep sea diver's suit. With this and the news of several yachts disappearing, looks like there's a mystery to solve.

My thoughts: This is my favourite Scooby Doo monster of all time. From his design to his inhuman moan. If I was ever going to go to a costume party, I would dress up as this ghost.
