Chapter 4: The First Confrontation.

“Oh god not again!” Serena said gloomily as she read her report card. She and her friends were having lunch at the local milkshake and burger bar located on the college’s campus. They were at their usual table that was located at the back next to the window. It was the only place there that they could get some privacy. This time however, Serena’s mind was not on food. “Why do I keep getting low scores on my report cards?” she said “honestly I do try and keep on top of things!” “There, there Serena” Rei said “47% isn’t that bad. It isn’t like last time when you caused your chemistry set to explode” “That wasn’t my fault!” Serena said “I was just unblocking that rubber tube that you used with the Bunsen burner. It wasn’t my fault that I cause the gas to block up even more and then causing it to explode!” “Well it did gave us a month off when they were repairing the east side of the school” Lita said and when she laughed, so did the rest of them. Then Mina notice something. “Hey guys look!” she said “over by the entrance!” Lita, Rei, and Serena glanced in the direction of the entrance. What they saw amazed them. 

It was Ami. With a tall boy with blonde hair and dark blue eyes, just entering through the swinging doors. Ami was showing him around the place and hadn’t seen them. “So that’s the transfer student from England” Rei said “man does he look handsome” “What’s the betting that he is related to royalty?” Mina said “he looks the part” “I think that Darien has competition” Lita said “He does not!” Serena snapped “That boy holds nothing to my Darien!” As they talked, Mina leaned backed and sipped at her milkshake. She then noticed something out of the corner of her eye. She then turned her head and had a better look. Out of the window, she could see something in the bushes just outside. She could not tell what it is. But whatever it was, it was spying on them. It then saw Mina and hurried off. Mina was confused. But she was brought out of her thinking by her friend elbowing her in the ribs. “Hey!” Mina said “what gives?” “You were daydreaming” Lita said “I was just talking about the rumours that are spreading around school” “what rumours?” Mina said “Well this is what I heard” Rei said. All four of them hunched over the table like gossipers do and Rei continued. “There have been rumours of people seeing little figures around the school” she said “Strange looking figures at least. They’ve been sighted all around the school. From the assembly hall to the kitchens. Even in the gardens. Kisumi thought that she was being spied on while in the showers. But that’s just those three again. Honestly I don’t know what’s happening” “You don’t think they are involved with the negaveres?” Serena said “just spying on us to find our weak spots?” “We have no idea” Lita said “I just hope we don’t have to meet them or fight them anytime soon”. How very wrong she was.

Later that day they all gathered in Ami’s room. Ami had just told them that she had her wand back. “Well that is good news” Luna said “now we can seek out that being from the negaveres and send it back there!” She then turned to Ami “By the way Ami, how did you come across it?” she asked. Ami paused for a bit and then said “Gary found it. The new student. He found it after I dropped it and looked after it until he returned it to me” “You mean he had it last night!” Luna said “Oh this is bad, very bad!”. “I don’t know why you are getting angry” Ami said “He thinks that it’s just a harmless toy” “Haven’t you considered the fact that he could be the being from the negaveres?!” Luna said “He might have found out how it works and had made weapons that will render them useless!”. “Ami you idiot!” Rei said “You might had given the enemy an advantage!”. “Don’t yell at me!” Ami said. Serena got up and defended her friend. “This doesn’t help” she said to Rei “She didn’t know. And supposing that he isn’t that thing from the negaveres. But just someone who wants to help!” “We have no idea” Luna said “where did you say he was staying at?” “He has an apartment just near the boy's dorms” Ami said “on the top floor. Room number thirty five”. “Well I think the best thing to do is to look around his room and see who or what he is” Luna said “You mean breaking into his room?” Ami said “I’ll have none of it!” “I wasn’t including you” Luna said “I’m going myself” She started towards the open window. Then noticed Artemis running after her. “I’m coming with you” he said “Artemis?!” Luna said turning to him “why do you want to come?” “Just to protect you” Artemis said going up to her. “You’re my wife. I do not wish to see you harmed!” Luna looked at him. Then with tears in her eyes, she snuggled her husband. “Oh Artemis” she said “it’s when you say things like that makes me realise how much I love you”

It was late that afternoon. Gary was reading a book while lying on the sofa. It was a book left to him by his grandfather. He didn’t understand the writing. Mainly because it was in French. But luckily he learnt French from his grandfather. Gary took a glance at the clocked. Half past five. He suddenly remembered something. He left his laundry downstairs in the basement. It must be done by now. Hurriedly he grabbed a laundry basket and went to get his clothes. He remembered to lock the door behind him. But he did not remember to close his window. And it is this window that Luna and Artemis sneaked thru. “Right this is the plan” Luna said “we’ll split up and look around the apartment. We’ll look for anything that might have anything to do with the negaveres” “Ok Luna” Artemis said and off they went. 

Artemis went towards the kitchens. He didn’t expect to find anything, he was mainly hungry. He looked about him and found a cupboard that was a jar. He wondered over and poked his head inside. Nothing much to report. Artemis groaned slightly. Still he kept on looking. While he was looking, Artemis began to think back to when Luna announced to him that she was pregnant. He was over joyed by the news. He was going to be a father and he was looking forward to it. Absorbed in his thoughts, Artemis did not notice the figure that was sneaking up on him from behind. 

Meanwhile Luna was in the living room. She had hoped onto the sofa to get a better view of the room. Then she noticed something. It was a picture of Gary himself. He looked around twelve in the picture. And standing behind him was possibly his mother and father. Luna felt a bit ashamed for suggesting that Gary might have anything to do with the negaveres. But she thought that the picture might be a fake for anyone who might visit. Then she noticed the book. Luna dropped to the floor and wondered over to it. It was written in French. Luckily she knew French so it was easy to read. She opened it at a random page and began to read. Her face change as she read. “Is this what I think it is?!” she said to herself. Then her face fell. “Oh my god it is!” she said. Then came a loud screech and the sound of cluttering from the kitchen. “Oh Artemis” Luna said not amused. She looked to see Artemis flying out of the kitchen and hit the wall behind the sofa. “Artemis!” she shouted as she ran to her husband. “What is it?!” she asked as Artemis stirred. Then she heard a thump, thump. Like heavy feet walking towards them. She turned to see….. She could not believe her eyes. What she was seeing was a being. About her height. But its head was small. Like that of a pin. But its arms and hands were larger than the rest of its body. Artemis stood up and staggered slightly. “That thing jumped me and flung me!” he said. Luna was both amazed and scared. But she stood her ground as the thing walked towards her. “GET AWAY FROM HER!” Artemis shouted. He ran up and stood in front of Luna “LUNA RUN FOR IT!” “No!” Luna said “I will not leave you!” “DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME!” Artemis demanded "JUST GO!". Luna gave in and went off. Artemis turned and hissed at the thing. “COME AT ME SERVANT OF THE NEGAVERES! IN THE NAME OF THE MOON I WILL PUNSIH YOU!” And with that the two of them collided.

Luna didn’t want to leave him but she did as she was told. Artemis was just looking after her and their unborn children. He was a good person and a protective husband. Luna was still wondering if she should go back for Artemis when she ran into something else. It was another figure. But this one was different. It was a cowboy. A tall and slender cowboy with six arms and hands. It stood there. Like a centipede on its hind legs. “What on earth are these things?!” Luna thought “well at least this one doesn’t look that threatening” Then the six armed cowboy walked towards her. And from its hands popped out guns (one for each hand) and aimed them directly at Luna. “You had to say it didn’t you” she thought and ran back the way she came.

Meanwhile Artemis had just about had enough with this Pin-Head. He managed to dodge a striking blow and trapped it under a rubbish bin. Artemis felt exhausted and had to lean against a wall to catch his breath. But then he heard more footsteps. He glanced around and then saw two more figures approaching him. Things were getting weird. These two looked like they had just stepped out of a weird pulp fiction story. One of them was dressed like a world war two sergeant. But with a drill on his head. The other one was dressed like a jester. But its face was separated into three sections. Artemis watched and they began to talk to each other in an unknown language. To him, it was just grunts and moans. They seemed to understand each other because the jester walked over and freed the pin headed out from the bin. Artemis was beginning to wonder what these little things are. They look human and they walk and talk like humans. But not the same shape nor size. The question of if this Gary is a member of the negaveres is beginning to ring true. “Ok” Artemis thought as all three of the things started to advance on him “I can deal with the jester with ease but the Pin-Head one will be difficult. And I dread to think what will happen if that one with the drill on its head corners me. My best option is to get all three of them tangled up in a mess and make an escape” Just as he was about to think on a way to do this, Luna came flying into them and sent them flying. “Luna!” Artemis said “I thought I told you to get out of here?!” “I changed my mind” Luna said “now if you have a plan to get us out of here I sagest that you put it into action right now before…..” She was suddenly cut short when something resembling a bullet shot past his left ear. “What was that?!” Artemis said. And then he saw the six armed cowboy approaching from behind. Luna then made a good choice and led Artemis out of the window (which was still open) and they both disappeared into the night. They had no idea who or what they had encountered in that flat but one thing for sure is that they’ll never set foot in that place again.

The four things were thinking the same thing. Why on earth would two cats have any interest in their master’s apartment? But they were told by him to protect the property when he is not around. They began to tidy up just when their master returned. “What on earth happened here?” Gary said after locking his door and putting down his laundry. The four things looked up at him and began to talk to him in their strange language. To the passer-by they would have no idea what they were saying. But it seemed to make sense to Gary as he listen them. “Two stray cats had gotten in thru the open window?” he said “I must had forgotten to close it. Well at least you’ve shooed them away and are now cleaning up” All four of the things bowed to their master and continued to clean up. Gary took his laundry and began to fold them away. He might get an early night tonight because it was his first day at college tomorrow. And who knows, Gary might run into Ami again. He had grown fond of her. Maybe he’ll ask her out one day. Or perhaps introduce her to his friends. But his grandfather had sworn him to secrecy in case they get found out and/or stolen. It would have been a disaster to everything he and his grandfather had stood for. God knows what he would say if he knew about two cats being able to get inside. Gary made a mental note to close and lock all windows and doors in future to avoid future embarrassment. At least they haven’t stolen anything. That’s what he thinks.

Chapter 3: When Ami met Gary.

It was seven in the morning. Everyone at the dorms were getting up and getting ready for a new day at college. Well at least for some. “WHERE THE HELL IS IT?” Ami said as she ransacked her room, flinging things all over the place “OH GOD I HOPE IT WASN’T STOLEN!” Ami rechecked thru her bag for the twenty fifth time but to no avail. Just then her doorbell rang. “WHO IS IT?!” she called. “It’s us Ami!” said a familiar voice “Can we come in?” Ami went over to her door and opened it. Outside were Serena, Rei, Lita, and Mina. “We’ve just heard about last night!” Lita said “Are you alright?” “Yes I’m fine” Ami said “it’s nothing to overreact to” “NOTHING?!” Serena said “you were nearly mugged! That was so horrible to have that happen to you” “It’s ok really” Ami said “it’s not important right now!” “Ami what in god’s name is more important than nearly getting mugged by a street gang?!” Rei said. Ami pulled them inside her room and closed the door behind them. When she felt like it was safe to talk she then said “I’ve lost my sailor wand!” “WHAT?!” the others said “What do you mean you’ve lost it?” “It happened during the fight” Ami said “you see the gang was going to attack me but then a passer-by came to defend me. It must have fallen out of my bag or something” “Well we have to look for it” Rei said “if someone found it and figured out what it is and how it works…. We all be in mortal danger!” “Well then what are you’ll standing around here for?” said a voice. Everyone looked around them to see who had spoken. Then their eyes looked to a table over by an open window. And at the animal that was sitting on it. “Luna!” Serena said recognising her friend. It was indeed Luna. The black cat that had guided them thru their adventures. “What brings you here?” Serena said “Sadly not for pleasure” Luna said “but first some good news” she turned to the window and called “ARTEMIS!” to someone outside. “Hurry up and get in here” she then added. There was a scrabbling noise and a white cat entered through the window behind her. “Hey!” he said both angry and out of breathe “It is extremely difficult to climb five stories up you know!” “Artemis!” Mina said going over to him and cuddling him. “It’s been so long since we’ve last met” she said “last time was when we fought Sailor Galaxia” “Yeah it was” Artemis said snuggling Mina “well that’s not important right now” Luna said a little annoyed. “What’s going on?” Serena said. “Well” Luna said as Mina put Artemis back on the table “First of all, me and Artemis are expecting kittens!” The girl’s expressions are mixed. “You mean……. You are going to be parents!” Lita said “that’s wonderful!” “I’m lost for worlds” Serena said “but I’m so happy for you guys” “Thank you” Luna said “But we have little time to celebrate. Your world is in danger again” “In what way?” Serena said. Luna told everyone to sit down before she began to tell her story. “You see in me and Artemis’s time, we have heard news that a sinister monster from the negaveres is going to arrive in your time stream. We have no idea who or what it is but all we know is that it is very dangerous!” “Oh my god!” Ami said “and combined with my wand going missing, this is indeed terrible!” “We have to find that wand!” Luna said “before someone else does!”

An hour later all seven of them were by the tree Ami was at last night. They had combed every single patch of ground from a mile round but still no such luck. “This is a nightmare!” Ami kept saying “College starts in five minutes and we still haven’t found it” She was beginning to panic again. “Calm down” Rei said “we’ll just have to continue after our lessons” “That’s not all” Ami said “I’m supposed to show the new boy around today. I don’t think I could relax till this evening” Then they heard the college’s bell tolling. Signalling that school has started. All five went their separate ways and Luna and Artemis went off too.

Ami went off to find the Principal’s office. She was both worried and ashamed for losing her sailor wand. Without it she will never turn into Sailor Mercury. Perhaps Luna can make her a new one or something. At last she found the office. She was about to knock on the door when it opened. “Oh there you are Miss Mizuno” The principal said “I’m glad to see you. Would you come in please?” She let Ami in and closed the door behind them. “Ami Mizuno I would like to introduce you to our new foreign student Gary Matrix” Ami was about to respond but she didn’t. Because she was looking at the blonde haired and dark blue eyed boy whom she had met just yesterday. “So you are Ami Mizuno” Gary said offering his hand. Ami still couldn’t speak. Was this the same guy who save her just yesterday? But when she noticed that his left hand was still bandaged up, lightbulbs went off in her head. “I’m sorry have you two already met?” the principal asked “Yes we did yesterday” Gary said when Ami did not answer “In fact we had a nasty run in with a street gang” “Oh so you’re the one who saved her!” the principal said “we could use more people like you around here. Well I leave you two to get acquainted” She then left them alone. It was a long time before anyone spoke.

“Well isn’t this a surprise” Gary said “you look different in the daytime. Are you still shaken up from yesterday or are you…….” Gary didn’t finished his sentence because Ami threw her arms around him. “Are you ok?” he asked “yes I’m fine” Ami said “I just never got a chance to say thank you” “Is this how you say thank you over here?” Gary asked a little embarrassed “No not always” Ami said letting go of him. “How is your hand by the way?” she said unwrapping the handkerchief. The cut was almost healed and it was no longer bleeding. “It looks a lot better” Ami said “yes thank you for the first aid” Gary said “just out of curiosity where did you learned that from?” “My mother tort me” Ami said “she’s a doctor. I am hoping to follow her footsteps and become a doctor myself” “Well I hope you achieve it” Gary said. There was something about him that was drawing Ami towards him. Maybe it was his English charm or something. But she shook herself out of it and said “Well I suppose we should begin the tour” “that would be wonderful” Gary said “Oh before we get started….” he undid his jacket and felt in his inside pocket. Ami look on wondering what it was. Whatever she had in mind blew up as he took out….. Her sailor wand! “You’ve dropped this when you hurried off last night” he said handing it over to her “I didn’t know if it was important to you so I took it back to my place. I hope you didn’t mind” “No I don’t” Ami said happily as she took it from him “I have been looking for this for ages! I almost lost my mind trying to find it” “Well I’m glad that you didn’t” Gary said “Shall we start our tour?” A new flush of warmth flooded inside Ami as if a hundred years of misery have fallen away. “Lets!” she said and she led Gary out of the principal’s office. It didn’t came to their attention that they weren’t alone in the office. In fact they had been watched by three pairs of eyes. Three pairs of little eyes that continued to follow them while they went on their tour.

Chapter 2: Strangers in the night.

It was late in the evening. The larks are now retiring for the night and the owls are coming out. And so can be said for the birds as well. Around the campus the students are happy with the thought that college was over for the day. All accept one. “Look Ami it’s half past five! Don’t you want to go to Rei’s apartment and look at her vacation photos?” Lita asked as she, Ami, Rei, Serena, and Mina were gathered around the fountain on the collage’s grounds. “I like to but I’ve got to study for that science test” Ami said “that test isn’t for another six weeks you’ve got plenty of time” Rei said “I know but you know me” Ami said “Look I’ll take a rain check on the photos Rei but I’ll see them some other time” and with that she went on her way. Ami secretly didn’t want to study but she didn’t want to be seen as slacking. Anyway she went off towards the girl dorms in a bit of a hurry. She didn’t like being outside during darkness.

“What’s the hurry girl?” a voice said. Ami turned and saw a gang of hoodies walking towards her. “What do you want?” she asked “oh nothing much” one of them said “The night is young and we’re alone!” Ami started to back away. This is one of the reasons why she didn’t want to be out when it gets dark. “Why don’t you hand over your money or else” the leader of the hoodies said pulling out a flick knife. The rest of his gang took out their flick knives and began to advance on Ami. They pinned her up against a tree and made it clear that she wasn’t going anywhere. “But I don’t have any money” Ami said “well that’s just bad” the gang said. They lunged at her. But before they could do anything, a fist swung and hit the gang leader in the face. The leader went flying back and his gang back off slightly. Ami had no idea what happened. Did Lita came along and was helping her? But then she notice that it was not Lita. But a nineteen year old boy who was now in-between her and the gang. “LEAVE HER ALONE!” he shouted at them as their leader got up from the patch of grass that he landed on. “That hurt!” he said “YOU ARE SO DEAD!” He and his gang lunged at this new person.

But surprisingly, the boy managed to fight off the gang. Slamming his elbow into the face of one wile kneeing another in the groin. After a while the gang was defeated and they ran off. Ami had been up against the tree for the whole fight. Not wanting to run in case she was attacked. She was still trembling as the boy who had rescued her approached her. “Are you ok?” he asked “did they hurt you?” Ami looked at him. He had dark blue eyes and blonde hair. She had no idea who he was but she was thankful that he came to her aid. “No I’m ok” she said “I’m just a bit shaken” She then saw that he was cut on his hand. “Oh my god you’re hurt!” she said “what?” the boy said “oh that. It’s just a scratch. It’s nothing!” “Nothing?!” Ami said “You’re bleeding! Here let me help” She took a handkerchief from her pocket and wrapped it around his hand. “That would stop the blood but I insist that you should see a doctor” Ami said “Thank you” the boy said. He looked at her and said “Tell me what’s a nice girl like you doing outside this late?” Was he flirting with her? Ami felt embarrassed. But then noticed her watch. “I was just on my way to the dorm” she said “and to be honest I must be on my way” She grabbed her bag and ran off. 

As she went, the boy noticed something fell out of her bag. “Hey wait!” he shouted “you’ve dropped something!” But she disappeared around the corner and she was gone. The boy wondered why she ran off like that. Perhaps she didn’t like being flirted at (Ami was like when she when being hit upon. In fact she even gets allergic reactions to love letters) or perhaps there might be other street gangs lurking around in the dark. The boy sighed and then noticed the thing that had fallen out of her bag. He wondered over to it and picked it up. It looked like a cheap plastic wand from a toy shop. It was made out of a strange metal and it was light blue with the roman symbol of Mercury on it. There was also a crystal on top made into some sort of pattern that he couldn’t figure out. The boy had no idea what it was or why that girl had it with her. Perhaps it was something to do with an anime or something like that. He remembered seeing a lot of these on display at a costume shop back at the airport. They were dead cheap and could easily break if used too roughly. So why the hell did this girl had one of these in her bag? It must be very important to her if she had with her. Perhaps she was looking after it for a friend or perhaps she just brought it for herself? The boy put it in his coat pocket and went back to his apartment. Maybe he’ll run into her again tomorrow and then hand it back to her. But now it was time for him to get ready for bed.

Chapter 1: The new boy.

It was a bright sunny day in Tokyo. The weather forecast predicted sunny weather throughout the month. A perfect day to start a new term at college. Well for some at least. Serena ran thru the busy Monday crowds as she hoped to get to her school before she was late. The nineteen year old girl with her blonde hair done in two ponytails had overslept last night and if it wasn’t for her mother waking her up, she would had slept till evening. You see this is the problem when you’ve been partying the night before school. Serena had missed the bus and had to run eleven blocks before she finally arrived at Maple Leaf College for the gifted. She panted as she entered thru the main front doors before being greeted in the usual manner. “Good morning Serena” the long black haired girl said as she saw Serena stagger inside. “Morning Rei” Serena said “I’m not late am I? I overslept and missed the bus…..” “Relax Serena” Rei said “Classes have been delayed because most of the teachers are stuck in traffic” “SO I RAN ELEVEN BLOCKS FOR NOTHING!?!?” Serena said “Hey keep it down will you?” another voice said. Serena turned to see three other girls wondering over to her and Rei. The girl who spoke was the tallest out of the three and had long brown hair done in a ponytail. “Honestly people in the southernmost tip of Chile will be wondering who shouted” “and hello to you too Lita” Serena said. “So did you have a good summer?” the girl with blue hair asked “It was ok for me Ami” the second blonde haired one said “me and my family went to the countryside and stayed at a hot spring resort” “That’s good Mina” Rei said “I went to London for my summer. And despite what everyone said I found the food ok” “Well I spent mine at summer school” Ami said “Why?!” Lita said “Isn’t the fact that a summer vacation is for enjoyment and not having to do school work?!” “Well I find school work enjoyable” Ami said “unlike you who finds school work as fun as beating a wall with your ex-boyfriend’s severed head” “Hey!” Lita said (Even thou it was true she felt that she needed to stand up for herself) “I spent most of my summer at my Dojo ranking up my fighting skills!” “Ok, ok calm down!” Serena said “If it’s ok with you my summer wasn’t that much fun. I was supposed to spend it with Darien because he’s got three months break from San Francisco and he’s in the airier. But my mum and dad have other ideas. Seriously after finding that engagement ring that Darien gave to me before leaving, they have been trying to keep us apart” “But you do realise that you are too young to get married” Ami said “and besides you have to get college out of the way first. Education is a wonderful thing isn’t it?” “You know you are a walking PSA Ami!” Rei said “But you are right. Darien won’t go back to San Francisco for ages so you’ve got plenty of time. And in the meantime, when school is over you lot can come over to my place so I can show you some pictures of my vacation in England” “Oh that reminds me” Ami said “Speaking of England, we have a transfer student from England starting here. I was asked to show him around when he arrives. They also giving me the day off in order to show him around and to help him settle in” “A transfer student?!” Mina said “I wonder who he is?” “Well don’t get your hopes up” Rei said “not everybody there is related to their royal family” “That’s a shame” Lita said “There is nothing that I would like then to have a prince to rule alongside with” she sighed glancing into deep space as if she was imagining it. “Don’t you have Prince Midnight?” Serena said “You know that hunky yet mysterious prince from the Nightmare Kingdom?” “Oh yeah!” Lita said “I forgot”. Everyone then laughed and then went on to their classes.

It is a well-known fact that Tokyo Central airport was very busy all year round. Planes from all corners of the world come and go around the clock. One plane in particular landed just a few minutes ago and was now just unloading its luggage. One luggage in question was a large black trunk with brace locks. It looked out of place among the more modern bags that surround it as it trundled along the conveyer belt where most airport luggage goes along. All the other people ignored it as they collected their things and went on their way. All accept one who (along with two others) collected it and wheeled it off towards the front entrance. The person in question was a nineteen year old boy (whose name is Gary Matrix) with light blonde hair and dark blue eyes. He made his way thru the bumbling crowds with his luggage and managed to hail a taxi. The driver was her usual self because she was used to dive foreigners around the city. Luckily this one can speak basic Japanese. Not good Japanese but understandable. “So where are you heading?” she said as Gary put his luggage (including one large black trunk) on the back seat. “I’m heading to Maple Leaf college” he said “I’m enrolling there tomorrow” “Oh good for you” the taxi driver said “My younger sister goes there too. The place is ok but most of the time it’s downright boring” She laughed at this and started the engine. As she did so the trunk made a thump noise. Like something was moving around inside. “What was that?” she asked as she drove away. “Something might have slipped inside” Gary said “the straps keep getting loose” “How long have you had that trunk for?” the taxi driver asked. “For some time now” Gary said “It belonged to my late grandfather.
